CII Awards and Recipients

International Investigator of the Year

The International Investigator of the Year is our most cherished honor, given annually to a member who has conducted an exceptional investigation, which exemplifies the outstanding work our entire profession strives to do for our clients and public every day. This award was inaugurated in 1976, when the Association of British Investigators presented the CII with a silver loving cup with a request that the Council present it to its most deserving member.

Meritorious Service Award

The Meritorious Service Award, (MSA) honors exceptional service to the Council of International Investigators; the security and/or investigative industry; or the community in general, by a member of the Council. The MSA Award may be bestowed on any member of the Council in order to recognize their outstanding achievement and/or contribution. The first Council MSA Award was presented in 2002, posthumously to Robert M. Peterson. Bob was a leader of the Council in the late 90’s who was known for his dedication to the idea that the CII would be an organization of laws, not of men, meaning that we were to be consistent in applying our rules and regulations without favor or bias.

In February, 1994, the Council of International Investigators lost one of its best friends and honorable members. Malcolm Watson Thomson, of Edinburgh, Scotland was a very active member in C.I.I. and held the distinguished position of Executive Regional Director when he passed away. At the Mid-Year Meeting in 1994, the Council decided to pay tribute to Malcolm by establishing an award to honor the Regional Director who best represented his ideals and high professional moral standards. The recipient, who is chosen by a committee, would also be a person who best exemplifies the membership and the Strategic Plan goals of the Council.
